Requests for an appointment can be made via email, phone, text, or the online form.  We are oftentimes working with another patient at the time of your call, so please leave a voicemail and either Dr. Han or her assistant will return your call as soon as possible to schedule your appointment and to get a detailed history as to the reason for the visit.  If you are a new client, we will request previous patient records from your last clinic so as to determine the best course of treatment and preventative care based upon your pet’s medical history.

On the day of your appointment, we will text or call you when we are on the way.  Houston can have unpredictable traffic conditions, but we make every effort to arrive on time for your appointment.  If we are unexpectedly delayed, we will notify you as soon as we are aware of a delay.  Your pet should be confined in an area where they aren’t able to hide under furniture or sneak away to a hiding place.  Cats especially should be confined to a bathroom or small room prior to the visit as they seem to always have an uncanny knack of sensing when a veterinarian is coming.

Appointment times typically range from 30 minutes to an hour depending on what is needed.  Wellness visits last approximately 30 minutes.  Consultations and second opinions on more complicated conditions, skin disease work-ups, and end-of-life services can last up to 1 hour.  We’ll let you know what our estimate is at the time your appointment is scheduled so that you may plan your day accordingly.  We are happy to provide an estimate on the costs beforehand at your request.

  • Microchipping and registration
  • Internal and external parasite testing & control (deworming, flea & tick, mites, etc.)

  • Refills of prescriptions for medical conditions
  • Hospice care
  • Compassionate and gentle in-home euthanasia and aftercare arrangements

Anything beyond the scope of what we can accomplish in-home is referred to the closest recommended full-service hospital, specialty center, or emergency care facility.  This means that any procedure requiring heavy sedation, anesthesia (dental cleanings or surgical procedures such as spays, neuters, etc), hospitalization, or radiographs/x-rays must be performed in a traditional hospital setting at a brick and mortar facility.

We recommend that any truly emergent condition also be seen immediately at a full-service hospital as we are are not equipped to quickly respond to or fully handle true emergencies. My Doorstep Vet welcomes phone calls from our established clients to help triage and guide you as to the best course of action in an emergent situation. We have close ties with many general practices and can easily forward and direct your pet’s medical records digitally to the hospital of your choice.

• I am homebound and it is very hard to actually bring my pet to the clinic.

• I am in an assisted living facility and don’t have transportation readily available.

• I am interested in hospice care.

• My dog is so stressed when I take him/her to the vet’s office. He trembles and tries to hide behind my legs or under the chair.

• The only time my cat willingly enters the cat carrier is when it is time to leave the clinic.

• My cat is sweet at home but becomes untouchable at the vet, or she throws up and poops in her carrier on the way there.

• I have a busy schedule and don’t have time to drive to the clinic, wait to be seen, and then wait to be checked out.

• I have several four-legged members of my family as well as small two-legged members, and it would be so much easier and more convenient if someone could just come to my house and get their vaccines done.

• My furry loved one is aging and so dear to me, and I want to make things as easy and comfortable for him at home in a gentle and loving way.

• I often feel rushed at the vet’s office and would like to spend more time asking questions and having my concerns addressed.

While we are able to handle a majority of your pet’s preventative care needs and minor illnesses, we do recommend being established at a full service veterinary hospital as well as being familiar with the closest emergency hospital in the event of a true emergency. Dr. Han may recommend routine wellness services requiring anesthesia (such as dental cleanings, spays, and neuters) which will need to be performed in a hospital setting. Dr. Han can assist you in making a recommendation to a high-quality practice if you are not already established at one. Because we utilize digital medical records, it is with a click of the mouse that we are able to send your pet’s records to any hospital, ensuring that your pet’s needs are being met in the team approach that we believe in.

Exam fees and services are comparable to your traditional brick-and-mortar practices.  They can oftentimes even be lower due to less overhead involved in this type of practice.  There is a separate house call fee associated with each visit that covers the transportation costs and additional time involved in a house call visit.  The house call fee is based on your location in Houston and the distance you are from our home base in the Heights. If you have multiple pets needing an exam, there will be an exam fee for each pet but only a single house call fee for the visit.  We are happy to provide an estimate of the costs upon inquiry.

My Doorstep Vet accepts cash, credit, debit, and personal checks. We can also accept payment via PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle. We thank you for your payment at the time of service.

Yes! There may be circumstances when you wish to utilize a housecall veterinarian – lab work monitoring, rechecks, annual services, etc. We are happy to provide that for you as-needed and will communicate with your regular veterinarian via phone and the transfer of medical records to ensure the team approach to your pet’s care.

My Doorstep Vet is happy to come and evaluate your pet. If the doctor feels that your pet needs more immediate attention, she can refer you to a recommended full-service veterinary hospital or specialist in your area.
